Google is taking on Commission Junction and ClickBank. In a mail that was sent out to Adsense publishers, Google wrote:

* Google Affiliate Network: As part of the integration of
DoubleClick, the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate Network will now
operate as the Google Affiliate Network for advertisers targeting
users located in the United States. Similar to the AdSense
Referrals program, the Google Affiliate Network enables publishers
to apply for advertiser programs and get paid based on
advertiser-defined actions instead of clicks or impressions. For
further details, please visit:
www.google.com/ads/affiliatenetwork.

To become a publisher:

 

  • You need to fill an online application form. Acceptance in the program is not guaranteed and you will be notified within 48 hours
  • The contact info you are going to fill in the application should match WHOIS registration info for the domain you are applying for
  • The application form insists for Company Name field to be filled. I noticed that the form submission goes through fine after filling N/A (standing for ‘Not Applicable’) in that field
