TweetDeck - Organize Twitter messages into groups
TweetDeck is an Adobe AIR desktop application using which you can categorize Twitter messages into groups.
TweetDeck enables users to split their main feed (All Tweets) into topic or group specific columns allowing a broader overview of tweets. To do this All Tweets are saved to a local database.
In the first run, all tweets (including yours) are shown in the first column and all the replies that you have received in the second.
Clicking on the first button TWEET brings up the standard box in which we can post to Twitter. It would be nice to have a URL shortening feature like in Twhirl.
The most useful feature of this program is the ability to group tweets from the people of your choice. After clicking on the GROUP button, type in a name for the group and check the contacts among the people you are following.
So from now on all tweets from labnol and problogger (as per the above screenshot example) appear in a new column. TweetDeck also applies this filter to existing tweets.
TweetDeck also has a handy search feature.
Being database driven TweetDeck allows the user to continue twittering even when offline. Tweets and direct messages are queued and then sent automatically when back online. This offline functionality also applies if Twitter is down.
It is not clear if TweetDeck provides notifications of new tweets like Twhirl does.
Conclusion: TweetDeck compliments Twhirl nicely, but is not a replacement for it. If you follow a lot of people via Twitter, TweetDeck is a good application to have to classify and organize the message overload.
