4 Free File Storage Sites
There are several web sites providing a lot of free space for storing your files and media like photos, music (mp3s) and videos. They also offer file sharing besides file storage.
Listed below are few notable free web services offering file storage and file sharing (our emphasis is on file storage aspect):
MyBloop
The site to upload and share files for free with infinite space.
Summary:
- Unlimited space. There are no limits on storage, bandwidth or the number of files you can store.
- Max file size: 1GB
- Allowed file types: Everything (music, videos, pictures, zip files, exe files) except .js and .php.
- Provides a desktop client with easy drag and drop facility besides a web based file manager.
- Files can be set as private or public. However, if you give the link to a private file to someone, they will be able to access it. So just make sure you give the private link only to people you want to allow access to. Also ensure that you aren’t making any copyrighted material as public since MyBloop allows music, videos and movies to be uploaded as long as it is marked private and is not shared with anyone else.
- Hotlinking is allowed only for image files.
- Users can download all files types except for music.
- Lets you embed a single mp3 or a playlist on your blogs/sites. Playlists have interstitial voice ads.
A 5 minute tutorial about the main features of MyBloop website:
Oosah
This is the latest entrant into the arena.
Summary:
- Storage space: 1TB
- Max file size: 100MB (except for videos)
- Max video size: 200MB
- Max mp3 size: 9MB (theoretically, I was able to successfully upload and play a 10 MB mp3 just fine)
- Max image size: 50MB
- Supported media formats
- Photos can be printed at full resolution on your local computer.
- You can connect to these external services: Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and Picasa. Once an external service connection is authorized by you, the media from that respective site will be imported into your Oosah account.
- Music files can be added to a podcast (the equivalent of a playlist in MyBloop)
- Provides embed option for all your media and for podcast. Also provides .m3u and .pls links for listening to and sharing your podcast in Winamp or Windows Media Player.

Steekr
Summary:
- Storage space: 1GB
- Max number of songs: 250
- Max number of pictures: 500
- Provides desktop clients for Windows and Mac OS for simpler, automatic scheduled uploads.
- You can access your storage space from Windows Explorer, using it like any external hard-drive.
- You can set specific folder to be editable, so your contacts will be able to upload files for you.
- Deleted files are not instantly removed, but are placed in the Trash folder. Deleted files can thus be recovered.

Caution: Going by the posts in in.solit.us forum, it appears as if the service is shaky and unstable with uploads not proceeding smoothly etc. So if I were you, I’ll skip this for now. Seems like a service to watch out for in the future though.
Summary:
- Unlimited space, unlimited number of files, unlimited bandwidth
- File size limit: Not officially listed anywhere, but is around 81MB as per a post here.
- Multiple modes of file sharing: private, public, by user, by group or by generating private download links. Public files can be downloaded by anyone, even by unregistered users.
- Music and image files can be embedded on your site/blog
- Supports remote uploads. Just provide the URL and the file gets downloaded to your in.solit.us account.
- Provides WebDAV support so your account can be mounted and accessed just as if it’s a local hard drive.

Finally one word of caution: Think twice before using BOXSTr service. With a attractive 5GB space, it looks fine but note the following:
Files are deleted on inactive accounts after 30 days of not logging in. If you wish for this to not happen in the future, you need to log into our site every 30 days (or before that) or simply purchase any paid BOXSTr Account.

Same is the case with their sister site, OpenDrive.com. A glance at their forum indicates a sync feature that’s promised on their home page but doesn’t work as advertised.
