Sync Folders, Share Files, Chat and Remote Control using GBridge

Gbridge is a free software that lets you sync folders, share files, chat and VNC securely and easily. It extends Google’s gtalk service to a VPN (Virtual Private Network) that connects your computers and your close friends’ computers directly and securely. Gbridge has many unique features.

What can you do with GBridge?

  1. File sharing - Securely share files among your own computers, so you can remotely access your files. Securely share files to your designated friend, so the selected friend can instantly view the auto-generated photo thumbnails and slideshows remotely.
  2. File syncing - Transfer big files and sync folders from/to anywhere. Note that this is not truly bi-directional. For more info, visit this forum topic.
  3. Backup - Setup an auto-recurring local or remote backup of your important directory
  4. Screen sharing - Access your computer desktop remotely or share your desktop with your friend from anywhere, even behind NAT. Note that GBridge doesn’t work when you are using a VPN connection.

How To Round Corners Of An Image Using Picnik

Reader Level: Basic

One of the easiest ways of rounding corners of an image is to use the online image editing service called Picnik.

  1. a) If you want to round the corners of an image on a web page, you should get the Picnik add-on for Firefox from here. Once you have the extension installed, you can simply right click on the image and select ‘Edit Image in Picnik…’ option from the context menu. That will automatically open Picnik website in a new tab with your image ready to be edited.
    b) If you would like to apply rounded corners to an existing image on your computer, visit http://www.picnik.com/ and click ‘Get from Computer’. Browse to and bring your image into Picnik.

  2. Now go to ‘Create’ tab, click on ‘Frames’ and select ‘Rounded Edges’

    Create -> Frames

  3. You can see that the edges of your image immediately get rounded with a default corner radius of 27 (changeable). Also you can set the background color to be the same as the color of webpage on which you intend to place the image.

  4. Go to ‘Save & Share’ tab and save the image to your computer or have it directly sent to image hosting sites like Flickr and Picasa.

Check Your Username Availability At Popular Sites

Want to check whether your name is still available at social networking and Web 2.0 sites? Just visit http://usernamecheck.com/, key in your name and click the ? button.

image

According to the site, ‘sridhar’ is available at Digg when it’s not. So YMMV.

It’s a good idea to go ahead and register at those sites (that you think might be worth creating an account at) where your desired username is still not taken up.

By the way, does anyone know if TinyURL allows user registrations?
