Sumopaint – Yet another online image editor

As the lines between installed software and web applications become blurrier, online image editors continue to come up. The latest one to join the free image editing web applications is Sumopaint.

Sumopaint

The toolbars, palettes and menus are laid out to resemble the popular Photoshop application. But it doesn’t have the ease of use of say, Picnik for the most common tasks like red eye removal, image rotation, cropping and resizing. Also the import and export range of Picnik is better.

A good-to-have feature for Sumopaint would be the ability to accept images pasted from windows clipboard.

Background Pattern Generator

BgPatterns lets you apply pre-created patterns to that site’s background and download the image once you are happy with your selection.

Free Windows Find Replacement – Instant File Name Search

Instant File Name Search (IFNS) is a fast and easy to use search tool for Windows. You can instantly search files by name or wildcards on your computer or LAN.

During first run, IFNS automatically processes the files (took about 2 seconds to process 238845 files) and creates the index.

After that, searching is straight forward and the results appear almost instantly.

Working at Microsoft vs Google

Google Vs Microsoft Sergey Solyanik, left Google to re-join Microsoft as Dev Manager.

I think I am the first person in the Seattle/Kirkland area to do so, so this merits an explanation.

writes Sergey in his blog post. He explains why he chose to move back to MS and below are some notable points from it:

Plusses for Google:

  • Peer-based review model where one’s performance is determined largely based on peer comments, and much less so based on the observations of the manager.
  • Wide employee participation in corporate governance. i.e., A lot of internal aspects of Google are ruled by committees of employees who are passionate about an issue, and are willing to allocate some of their time to have this issue resolved.
  • Doing many things by committee.
  • Free food.
